Cool Choices--Cooler Trailer

Hi again, all. A writer I know from the MNSCBWI, Sandy Humphrey, has a great, timely, newish book out.

Hot Issues, Cool Choices: Facing Bullies, Peer Pressure, Popularity, and Put-Downs is the book. It seeks to empower readers to make honorable, respectful, decent choices, and it's already won awards. Check out the trailer here:

Enjoy, and check out Sandy's website:

A New Voice in American Letters

I learned today that my friend Jamie Patterson, whom I met in my days as a graduate school writing tutor, has published a memoir. Sounds like tough, hearbreaking stuff--it's a story she shared with me briefly back when we worked together--but I know Jamie can write, and I know she'll bring us all through the story with quiet, assured honesty.

Find out more here:

I can't wait to read it.

The Art and Science of Stone Skipping

Love to skip stones as Cal and Mr. E do? Check out these sources:

Make sure to pay attention to Mr. E's stone-skipping lesson in chapter 18 of Skipping Stones at the Center of the Earth--out in August.

MNSCBWI Workshop

Yesterday, I presented at the Minnesota Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. I want to say, "Thanks, Minnesota children's writers, for listening to my spiel." I promised to post my PowerPoint presentation on my website. I'm having trouble figuring out how to get it posted, though. If you'd like to see it, send me an e-mail. I'll send it to you that way.

Thanks, again.

. . . and we're off!

Skipping Stones at the Center of the Earth hit the printers today. The publisher has posted a website (called a poster page) for the book, as well. You can find it here:

I hope you enjoy the book as much as I've enjoyed working on it these last six years.
